FlowersThe Florida region is magnificently fertile for plants and all growing things.
This bromelaid is growing in a wildlife sancturay in Clearwater. These small sanctuaries are havens for all kinds of wildlife being hard pressed by urban humanity.
I'm not sure what the name of this flower is, but it grows on a shrub that also made an appearance in the movie "Maneater of Hydra", about a "mad" scientist who mutated plants on his island home and fed villagers and visitors to them.
Another angle of the threatening moster flower - you can see how the stamen projects, which was the active part of the killer plant hybrid in the movie. Like a vampire, that part stuck into a victim and drained the blood. A truly terrifying movie.
This swamp lilly is also in the wildlife sanctuary. I don't think this one has ever appeared in a cheesy monster movie, but I may be wrong. It doesn't appear threatening to me, but what do I know? Some people are scared of mayonnaise. |
